1)A. There are a variety of ways to get more involved.  First, for qualified individuals, there are some limited opportunities in certain geographic areas for authorized sales representatives to sell Basa Body products.  If you are interested in applying, please click here.  If you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation to one of our partner organizations doing humanitarian work in Kenya, you can also visit our “Get Involved” page.  Click here for more information.  The Pope Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 in the US that supports the Coast Coconut Farms project in Kenya.  You can make a tax-deducible contribution to the Pope Foundation, earmarked for Coast Coconut Farms to benefit the employees of the organization in Kenya.  100% of your contribution to the Pope Foundation goes directly to Kenya to support the project.  Send your check payable to the “Pope Foundation” to:

1260 S. 1600 W.

3)A.  There are two ways that your purchase will directly benefit the women entrepreneurs in Kenya to help themselves climb out of poverty—first, Basa Body is committed to purchasing all of the natural coconut oil we use in our products from Coast Coconut Farms in Kenya, thereby creating continual demand for their oil.  As Basa Body grows, more jobs will be created in Kenya to produce the virgin coconut oil.  In addition, 10% of the profits from each purchase will be donated back to a variety of projects that Basa Body supports in Kenya.  Those projects include the Yehu Microfinance Institution, a microfinance bank working in rural Kenya with over 18,000 rural clients, Choice Humanitarian, a US-based NGO doing village development in rural Kenya.  Their projects include water projects, health clinics, schools and other poverty interventions.  We also support the Coast Coconut Farms project, helping to provide employment in the rural areas of Kenya through the production of virgin coconut oil and related projects.

4)A. The definition of a lotion is an oil in water or a water in oil emulsion.  An alcohol is used to make the oil and water phases emulsify (mix together). If the product is not an emulsion of water and oil then it is probably properly identified as something other than a lotion.

Cetearyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol used as an emollient, emulsifier, thickener and carrying agent for other ingredients. It is used in many high-end and natural lotions.  It can be derived naturally (i.e., coconut fatty alcohol or wheatgrass alcohol) or synthetically. Ours is a natural plant derivative which is sometimes refered to as plant wax extract.  It is not an irritant and is not related to SD alcohol or ethyl alcohol which are drying alcohols.

5)A. Coconut oil provides some natural protection from sun exposure as it absorbs into the cell-structure of the connective tissue of the skin and thus limits the damage excessive sun exposure can cause.  We also believe in keeping our ingredients to a minimum.  We may add a natural SPF, such as zinc oxide in future products, particularly face lotions and lip balms.
